Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) Browser Review

I was recently working with an SMB to provide a secure offsite storage solution for some of their data.

After signing up for Amazon S3 I went hunting for a FileZilla like interface for my S3 storage.

First I tried, S3 Browser. It tempted with me with a Free version, but the free version couldn't change permissions on the bucket. Uninstalled.

I then stumbled upon CloudBerry Explorer. It's really free and worked like a charm.

The first step is to setup the access and secret keys. This info can be logging into your AWS account and going to the Access Identifiers tab.

I then used CloudBerry Explorer to create a bucket for my client in the flat S3 file system.

I was able to change the permissions on my bucket.

Drag and drop and viola, off-site storage. I'll go into scripting this solution up in a later post.

Another quite note:

If you open up your bucket for read access to the public, you can use CloudShare.Me to access your data.

CloudBerry Explorer

Thanks so much for posting a note about CloudBerry Explorer freeware!
