Well I have successfully applied the Virtual Center 2.0.2 upgrade (from 2.0.1) and VI3 3.0.2 upgrade (from 3.0.1) with no ill side effects. Definitely looking forward to the 2003 SP2 and SQL2005 resolutions.

# Copy tarball to /tmp
# tar -zxvf
# cd /
# esxupdate -n update

# Mount the .ISO
# Run through the installer.

This didn't work as designed and I instead got the wonderful "Insert Disk 1" message.
